What We Do
Comprehensive fire protection and emergency services for the Bridgeport Valley, Twin Lakes, and surrounding Eastern Sierra communities.
Fire Suppression & Emergency Response
Our volunteers are trained and equipped to handle the full spectrum of fire and emergency incidents in the Eastern Sierra. From structural fires in downtown Bridgeport to wildland fires across thousands of acres of high-desert terrain, BFPD responds 24/7, 365 days a year.
Our response capabilities include structural firefighting, wildland fire suppression, vehicle extrication, hazardous materials initial response, swift-water rescue, and emergency medical first response. We maintain automatic and mutual aid agreements with CalFire, US Forest Service, neighboring volunteer departments, and Mono County EMS.
Fire Prevention & Inspections
Prevention is our most effective firefighting tool. We work with property owners, businesses, and community members to reduce fire risk before an incident occurs. Our prevention programs include:
- › Defensible space assessments and recommendations
- › Fire code inspections for commercial properties
- › Burn permit issuance and oversight
- › Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) participation
- › Will Serve letters for property development
Community Education & Preparedness
School Visits
We visit Bridgeport Elementary and local schools to teach fire safety, stop-drop-roll, and what to do in an emergency. Kids get to tour the engines and meet real firefighters.
CPR & First Aid
Basic life support training for community members. We offer periodic CPR/first-aid classes to equip our neighbors with life-saving skills.
Public Events
Fire Prevention Week open house, community preparedness workshops, and participation in local events like Bridgeport's 4th of July celebration.
Mutual Aid Network
No single agency can do it alone in the Eastern Sierra. BFPD maintains mutual aid agreements with agencies across the region, ensuring that large-scale incidents receive the resources they need.
Our partners include CalFire (Mono County), Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Mono County Paramedics, Walker/Coleville Fire, Lee Vining Fire, June Lake Fire, and Mammoth Lakes Fire Department.
Apparatus
Type 1 Structure Engine
Primary structural response engine. 1,000-gallon tank, 1,500 GPM pump, full complement of ground ladders, extrication tools, and medical equipment. Seats 4 firefighters.
Water Tender
2,000-gallon water tender acquired in 2026 via FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant. Critical for wildland response in areas without hydrant access. Portable pump and fold-a-tank for remote water supply.
